At Aurum Adventist Academy, we are committed to providing quality Christian education that nurtures both the heart and mind, equipping young learners for a life of purpose and service. This past week, our mission was shared on a global platform, as we engaged with fellow believers at Village SDA Church in Berrien Springs, Michigan, USA. This opportunity allowed us to share our journey, the impact of our school, and our vision for the future.
A School with a Mission
Located in Bloemfontein, South Africa, Aurum Adventist Academy stands as the only Seventh-day Adventist school in the Free State Province. With only 15 Adventist schools across South Africa, our presence is not just necessary—it’s a mission field. We are dedicated to true education, shaping young minds through a unique blend of faith, academics, and practical skills development.
Our approach follows the Blueprint model, which emphasises whole-person development: training the head (intellect), the heart (spiritual growth), and the hands (practical skills). Our STREAMS curriculum (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Agriculture, Mathematics, and Skills Development) reinforces this vision by integrating faith into every aspect of learning.
The Journey So Far
Founded in 2013 with just 19 learners, Aurum Adventist Academy has grown into a thriving mission school, impacting over 137 students since its inception. Our school currently operates in a partitioned church hall, which, while serving its purpose, limits our ability to accommodate the increasing demand for Adventist education in our province.
Despite the challenges, our pass rate has been 100% since 2020, and nearly half of our learners come from non-Adventist backgrounds, making our school a true missionary initiative. Many of our students go on to university, and some even pursue postgraduate degrees, reflecting the excellence that Adventist education fosters.
A Vision for Growth
During the recent engagement in Berrien Springs, we highlighted our biggest challenge—the need for a permanent school building. Our five-acre land has been donated and is ready for development. Now, we are praying and working towards constructing a new school facility, starting with seven classrooms for the primary section.
Our goal is to complete the first phase of construction by the end of 2025. This will allow us to scale up from 55 students to 250 students, significantly expanding our ability to serve the community and provide quality Adventist education.
Invitation to be Part of This Mission
Building one classroom costs US$35,000, including construction, furnishing, and learning materials. We are inviting individuals and groups to partner with us in faith. Here’s how you can help:
- Join the 100 Club: 35 people committing at least US$100 per month until December 2025 will help us build one classroom.
- Sponsor a Student: Many students are unable to afford Adventist education. By contributing to our Scholarship Fund, you help us provide tuition assistance to deserving learners.
- Make a One-Time Donation: If God has blessed you with the ability to sponsor a full classroom, we would be honoured to dedicate it in your name or that of your loved ones.
Donations can be made through Outpost Centers International (OCI), which ensures accountability and transparency in managing funds.
